When they first started with a single location in 2010, RV dealership Fun Town RV didn’t have to worry too much about documenting their policies and processes. But, as they quickly grew to become the nation's #1 towable RV dealer with over 22 retail locations, they faced the challenge of maintaining consistent processes across their rapidly growing business.

With no formal training program, individual store managers developed their own ways of doing things, leading to inconsistencies that caused operational issues. The company needed a centralized training solution to drive uniformity and ensure all employees followed standardized processes — from sales to service and everything in between. That's when they discovered Trainual.

“When we first started, we had no training program at all. Trainual had the features we needed, and it looked the easiest to jump into. So that’s why we chose Trainual.”

An onboarding platform that ensures consistency across locations and roles

Before implementing Trainual, Fun Town's approach to training was extremely fragmented. "We grew so fast — we went from a mom-and-pop store to having five, and then six locations," explained Christi Schmidt, Fun Town’s training coordinator. "The individual managers were doing their own thing per location.”

This free-for-all system led to glaring inconsistencies. "It was all kind of a similar way of doing things, but it just wasn't a set process for each thing," Christi added. "When we started growing, that's when we saw we needed uniformity — otherwise, glitches start happening."

According to Amberly Bersin, Fun Town’s training manager, the lack of consistency in one department could easily affect other areas of business. “There's reasons for processes, and what goes on in your department affects other departments. You may know a shortcut, but that shortcut is going to cause a problem to another department down the road.”

When they found Trainual, the company finally had a centralized hub to house all of their processes, policies, and procedures. The platform enabled the company to comprehensively document institutional knowledge in an organized, visual way. From HR documentation to role-specific training, Trainual became the single source of truth for all employees — ensuring that everything they did was the same, no matter what location.

“Trainual houses all of our processes, all of our HR documents. [New hires] get an invitation to train straight away.”

A training software that makes assignments and accountability simple

One of Trainual's most valuable features for Fun Town RV has been the ability to assign relevant training content to specific roles and locations. With a workforce spanning over 700 employees across more than 20 locations, this capability streamlined deployment of need-to-know information.

"I love what you guys have done with the ability to give everyone access to something or make it mandatory for some and not for others," Christi stated. "That flexibility on the assignments has been really nice because we have some smaller locations where a person may be doing four or five different roles in their one job."

This functionality, combined with Trainual's reporting, has driven greater accountability across Fun Town's distributed teams. "We have made our own reporting system that'll break [training completions] down. You can look at each person in your company and where they're at," said Amberly. "The whole company can see these stats. So the managers have to get on there and do their training too — you can't have a manager that doesn't complete their training. It gives visibility and holds accountability."

“[Trainual helps] just the overall productivity of everything running more seamlessly between departments and things not getting lost in-between.”

An easy-to-access resource for all employees

A major selling point for Fun Town was Trainual's ability to serve as an always-available knowledge base for employees to reference. No more having to dig through various docs and spreadsheets — workers can quickly search what they need to know and view their process right from their Trainual account.

Even better: Fun Town has also leveraged Trainual's integration capabilities to serve up the latest product training from their manufacturer partners. "I have partnerships where manufacturers just send me their training materials to embed and send out to the sales employees," said Amberly. "Being able to get outside people involved has been really cool."

“We’re invested in our training. This is how we do it.”

From struggling with inconsistent processes to becoming a model for workforce training excellence, Fun Town's journey with Trainual exemplifies the power of systematizing institutional knowledge. The platform has empowered the RV giant to drive uniformity across its nationwide operations while scaling seamlessly.

With Trainual, Fun Town has laid the foundation for continued growth built on robust, well-documented processes that properly set up every employee for success from day one.
